One of our staff members in our US office had been receiving a series of phone calls all week. Each order was the same: one copy of “The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus” and one copy of the companion workbook. And all of these orders were coming from Texas. Intrigued by this string of orders, our staff member asked the next customer who wanted her order shipped to Texas if she knew what was going on. Susan*, the customer explained.

Susan said that she has been leading book studies based on The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus for years and found that if people buy their own copy of the book, they would then “buy into it” and stick with the study and complete it. She shares more in her own words.

Over the past seven years I have had the privilege of leading many ladies (neighbours, new believers, co-workers, book club ladies, Crisis Pregnancy clients) through an amazing book called The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus. Much of the success I attribute to the unique approach the author uses to explain the message of the Bible. Often people are intimidated when invited to a BIBLE STUDY and therefore will not attend. By using The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus and calling it a book study (sounds more inviting to our current culture) participants enjoy learning about the Bible in a sequential, logical manner. The accompanying workbook helps engage the reader and reinforce the teachings. The most often comment I’ve heard from students is that this book helps them put all the pieces together of Bible stories they had heard over the years.

The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus is extremely evangelistic without being “preachy.” I can’t count the number of women who have come to faith in Christ while using this material. It then equips them to share the book with their friends in a non-threatening manner. The cost is reasonable and offered in many languages. Whenever I go on mission trips, I always purchase the language I will be visiting to give copies to the local pastors. They find it a great resource for their ministries.

Let me challenge you to get a copy and see how easy it is to have your neighbours for coffee and go through it or ask your co-workers to meet over lunch in the break room. Employers may not be able to lead it for their employees, but they may give you permission to teach your co-workers. You will never know if you don’t ask.

Get out of your comfort zone and go for it! Only what we do for THE KINGDOM will last forever. Take someone to heaven with you!

Pray and ask God what He wants you to do.
